It’s been about 2 months since we last updated you on our progress. I’m not sure how that’s possible… it’s all been a blur! Our “to-do” list is massive and overwhelming, so we have been focusing on taking things day-by-day. One big project per week, a few small projects every day.

Construction finally started on the barn, and we are about 85% done with our updates to the farmhouse. We are lucky that the farmhouse was beautifully maintained over the years, so we aren’t doing anything too major. Removing carpets, cutting holes in walls, replacing light fixtures, and painting. So much painting – walls, floors, trim, furniture. I’ve done my fair share of painting on our own home, but at this point I have achieved “level expert” status. I wish I had more interesting things to tell you, but I’ve spent the majority the last two months painting!

Okay, the fun part: pictures. Happy scrolling!

Send help.

The bridal suite felt a little closed off from the hair + makeup room, so we thought about cutting a hole out…

Boom. Worth it!

And I finally settled on bedding!

Brr.

Before…

…and after!

The carpet came up easy enough.

But the flooring underneath needed some TLC.

This was fun.

I was worried that our pets would feel lonely, since we haven’t spent much time at home since August. So we take them on “field trips” now! This is Opie. He likes to eat houseflies.

You know that cold snap we had in December? That was fun, right? Yeah. It was good motivation to redo the heating/cooling ductwork in the farmhouse to make things more efficient. We are lucky that my father was able to build/install all this for us!

Before (mostly – pretend it’s all purple)

During.

Still during. Old trim color on top, updated to white on bottom. Probably should have used more caulking on the mopboard. Oh well, it’s rustic – right?

And after! I still need to paint the doors, but the end is in sight!

We removed these built-ins from the master bedroom closet (which will now be our hair + makeup room)

Oh, look, more painting.

My grandfather loves puzzles, so you’re going to see lots of puzzles he’s put together/framed for us scattered around this house! This one was too perfect; this happy couple will greet you in the main entrance to the farmhouse.

I had a spare 4 hours to kill, so I decided to try putting up wallpaper.

Before…

And after! Needs one more coat of gray paint. This is a wall in the hair + makeup room.

We also built a countertop in the hair + makeup room for your stylist to use (this is not a great picture, I promise it’s much more lovely in real life!)

More painting. We found this old church pew in the barn and gave it a whitewashed update.

A few final pictures of the barn interior before the contractors started in. This was taken the day before they got here. That ceiling looks a bit saggy, huh?

Before.

Before.

Here we go!!

After 4 days, look how much work was complete! It’s tough to tell here, but they removed two entire levels of flooring. We have quite the pile stacked outside now.

The basement needs work before we can start laying the main floor.

Standing in the basement, looking up. The beam at head-height is where the main floor will be laid.

Three levels of flooring were removed in just two short weeks! This was what the barn looked like as of this morning. The basement area (dirt on bottom) needs to have new concrete footers poured to do a better job of supporting the main posts. We are replacing all of the floor stringers to prep for a new, 2″ thick tongue-and-groove floor. We have to decide what stain color – light or dark?! Don’t worry, we aren’t throwing away the old boards… many will be repurposed for the farmhouse tables (we started that project last week, but I haven’t taken pictures yet). Those large beams were cut in places over the years, so everything will be moved back to it’s original position. And if you look at the walls, you can see where many windows are boarded up… we will be carving those out again to let in more natural light! I have gorgeous chandeliers on order, and we are trying to choose a sconce style… I’m thinking vintage-style lanterns would be perfect in here! 1. Amazing progress. I love that you’ve kept the classic style in both the main house and the barn. Look forward to seeing more as you progress!!
