We did it! We made it through our first wedding season here at the farm. I thought I would enjoy having some time off for the winter, but I’m already antsy for next season to begin!

In the midst of the busiest days this past summer, all I could do was laugh when I got up in the morning. I had never been this tired before. There were days when we went to bed at 1am and got up at 4am, then had to pull another 12+ hours. There were days when my brain couldn’t function; I literally could not form sentences, so I just kept working in silence and throwing death-glares at whoever dared to try and engage me in conversation (thanks, Mum, for keeping me on-track by reminding me which projects were “priority”).

On top of everything, Ryan’s still working a full time job. So, I can’t complain too much.

But hey, we survived. There are worse things in life than being tired. Besides – this was all a choice. Nobody forced us a to start a business, and we are lucky to have the opportunity. This was self-inflicted madness.

I feel silly calling this place “the farm” since we don’t actually do anything farming related at the moment. Ryan and I have a little joke going; when strangers ask us what we farm out here, we say “brides”.

Now that winter has arrived, we have LOTS of time to rest + plan for the future. 2019 is going to bring us pretty flower gardens, vegetable patches, fruit trees, and (fingers crossed) CHICKENS. The gateway animal.

We are also planning our new house! It’s exciting, but we still miss our old home. At the moment, we are living in the farmhouse. It’s tricky to live here because we need to keep things spotless 100% of the time with no personal items out. The farmhouse is very cozy, but it feels a bit like living in an AirBnB. Our new house is going to be built the back of the hay field, and we should be moved in around May/June of 2019. The chickens will live up there, so don’t worry about them joining you on your wedding day. Unless you’re into that.

Now that construction is done, what types of things do you want to see on this blog? Business, personal, wedding-related, DIY, anything sounding fun here? Leave a comment below to keep me motivated 🙂
